Twin County Reginal Healthcare Announces DAISY Award
January 30, 2025

Twin County Regional Healthcare announced that Crystal Caudell, a nurse in the Cardiac Rehab department, has been honored with the prestigious DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses in January.
The DAISY Award, established by the not-for-profit DAISY Foundation in Glen Ellen, CA, recognizes the exceptional care and compassion nurses provide to patients and their families. The award was created in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, who passed away in 1999 from complications of the rare autoimmune disease Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP). Patrick’s family was deeply moved by the care he received from nurses during his illness, leading to the creation of the DAISY Award to celebrate the often-unsung heroes of healthcare.
Bonnie Barnes, CEO and Co-Founder of The DAISY Foundation, shared, “When Patrick was critically ill, our family experienced first-hand the remarkable skill and care nurses provide. Yet, these unsung heroes are seldom recognized for the super-human work they do.”
Caudell was nominated for the award by colleagues and patients who praised her for her dedication to providing not only excellent physical care but also emotional and mental support to her patients. In her role at the Cardiac Rehab department, Caudell creates an environment where patients feel as though they are part of a family, not just receiving medical treatment. She treats each patient according to their unique needs, whether they are chatty or more reserved, ensuring that every patient feels understood, valued, and heard.
"We are incredibly proud to honor Crystal with this well-deserved recognition," said Twin County Regional Healthcare Chief Nursing Office William Alley. "Her dedication to delivering exceptional care, alongside her compassion and clinical expertise, truly reflects the high standards we uphold in our nursing team. Crystal excels at building meaningful connections with patients while providing skillful, thoughtful care. She embodies the core values of Championing Patient Care, Doing the Right Thing, Embracing Individuality, Acting with Kindness, and Making a Difference Together. Crystal is an invaluable member of our healthcare family."
Patients who have worked with Caudell express how much the environment she fosters has helped them during their recovery. Many say that her kindness, empathy, and individualized approach have made a lasting impact on their health and healing journey. It’s clear that Caudell’s influence extends far beyond her role as a nurse; she has become a trusted and cherished part of her patients’ lives.
Twin County Regional Healthcare is proud to have Caudell as part of their team. Her exemplary work embodies the core values of compassionate care and patient-centered service that the DAISY Award seeks to celebrate.
