Twin County Regional Healthcare Announces March DAISY Award Winner
Galax, Virginia (March 19, 2025) – Twin County Regional Healthcare is proud to announce that Ashly Billing, a nurse in the Women’s Center department, has been honored with the prestigious DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses this March.
The DAISY Award, founded by the not-for-profit DAISY Foundation in Glen Ellen, California, recognizes the exceptional care and compassion nurses provide to their patients and families. Established in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, who passed away in 1999 from complications of the rare autoimmune disease Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP), the award was created to honor the often-unsung heroes of healthcare. Patrick’s family was deeply moved by the care he received from nurses during his illness, inspiring them to celebrate and recognize the remarkable work of nurses across the country.
Bonnie Barnes, CEO and Co-Founder of The DAISY Foundation, shared, “When Patrick was critically ill, our family experienced first-hand the remarkable skill and care nurses provide. Yet, these unsung heroes are seldom recognized for the super-human work they do.”
Ashly Billing was nominated for the DAISY Award by both colleagues and patients, who praised her for providing exceptional care in both physical and emotional support. In her role at the Women’s Center, Billing is known for creating an environment where patients feel like part of a family, not just recipients of medical treatment. She tailors her care to meet each patient’s unique needs—whether they are outgoing or more reserved—ensuring that every individual feels understood, valued, and heard.
“Ashly’s ability to connect with patients on a deep, meaningful level is what makes her stand out. She demonstrates the very best of what it means to care for others—both with skill and with heart,” said Chief Nursing Officer William Alley, at Twin County Regional Healthcare. “The DAISY Award is the perfect recognition of Ashly’s exceptional care and her unwavering dedication to improving the patient experience. She excels at building meaningful connections with patients while providing skillful, thoughtful care. Ashly embodies the core values we uphold in our nursing team: Championing Patient Care, Doing the Right Thing, Embracing Individuality, Acting with Kindness, and Making a Difference Together. She is an invaluable member of our healthcare family.”
Ashly Billing, who has been a nurse for 11 years, shared her thoughts on this recognition: “I’m married with one daughter, who is my world. I love spending time with my family. Ever since I was a child, I’ve wanted to be a nurse—it’s been my dream. It’s such an honor and privilege to care for people when they are vulnerable and sick. I truly believe that nursing is a calling—it takes someone special to do this work. People may forget your face, but they will never forget how you made them feel. I strive to provide a sense of peace and comfort to each patient that I have the privilege of caring for.”
Twin County Regional Healthcare is proud to have Ashly Billing as part of their team. Her exemplary work in providing compassionate, patient-centered care perfectly reflects the core values the DAISY Award was created to celebrate
