Twin County Regional Healthcare Celebrates 10 Years of Providing Teleneurology Services

Twin County Regional Healthcare celebrated 10 years of providing teleneurology services to the communities we serve.  A celebration event was held on Wednesday, January 22 to showcase the partnership with Novant Health.

“Rural communities often are without access to advanced stroke and neurology services for emergency and critical care,” said Gregory Pearson, CEO at Twin County Regional Healthcare. “By providing teleneurolgy services to our communities, TCRH provides this life-saving service close to home.”

If a patient experiences a potential stroke or other neurological emergency, our emergency room physician can speak to a neurologist at the bedside by videoconference.  A conversation between the two providers allows both clinicians to discuss the results of the diagnostic tests that are performed at the hospital.  Many patients are treated right here at Twin County Regional Healthcare and never have to leave the area.

“Our first teleneurology consult was in December 2009,” said Carla Gunter, RN, MSN, SCRN In-service Education, Stroke Coordinator for Twin County Regional Healthcare. “Since then, we have had approximately 2,100 consults. It is important that we continue to educate our communities about the signs and symptoms of a stroke and the importance of calling 911.”
