Twin County Regional Healthcare Receives Gold Seal of Approval from Joint Commission
Twin County Regional Healthcare has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® for Leading Laboratories Accreditation by demonstrating continuous compliance with its performance standards. The Gold Seal is a symbol of quality that reflects a health care organization’s commitment to providing safe and quality patient care.
TCRH underwent a rigorous, unannounced onsite review on January 22 -24, 2025. During the visit, a team of Joint Commission reviewers evaluated compliance with The Joint Commission standards spanning several areas including clinical chemistry, hematology, microbiology, and blood transfusion services. These standards also cover specialties like histopathology, immunology, and point-of-care testing. Evaluations are also made of the facilities and environment to evaluate the safe and effective operation of the laboratory. These standards ensure accurate and reliable testing results, safe and effective laboratory operations, protection of patients and staff from harm, compliance with relevant regulations and guidelines, and continuous improvement in laboratory quality.
The Joint Commission’s standards are developed in consultation with health care experts and providers, measurement experts and patients. They are informed by scientific literature and expert consensus to help health care organizations measure, assess and improve performance. The surveyors also conducted onsite observations and interviews.
“As a healthcare accreditor, The Joint Commission works with healthcare organizations across care settings to inspire safer and higher quality of care that is more equitable and compassionate,” says Ken Grubbs, DNP, MBA, RN, executive vice president of Accreditation and Certification Operations and chief nursing officer, The Joint Commission. “Through collaborating on innovative solutions and evidence-based resources and tools, The Joint Commission helps drive improvement while maintaining accountability through our leading survey methods and standards. We commend Twin County Regional Healthcare for its commitment to advance safety, quality, equity and compassion for all patients.”
“We are incredibly proud of our laboratory team for their unwavering dedication to excellence and patient care. Receiving the Gold Seal of Approval and accreditation from The Joint Commission is a testament to their hard work, precision, and commitment to the highest standards. I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to each and every team member for making this achievement possible and for the vital role they play in our hospital every day,” said Chief Executive Officer Sudandra Ratnasamy, MBA, FACHE.
In preparation for the review, the laboratory at TCRH reviewed all applicable accreditation standards, developed an evaluation plan, engaged staff and leadership to align with the goals of the accreditation process, and regularly reviewed the laboratories performance against the standards making necessary improvements when needed.
